The music of Shady GroOove is a charismatic blend of musical genres from the worlds of rock, blues, funk, Americana, jam, jazz, and classical— conveyed through the melodic voicing’s of violin, keyboards and the rhythmic drive of bass and drums.
The Long Version………
Shady GroOove was created in 2014 by bassist Mike Beaulieu after bringing together the musical talents of three fellow Central Oregon musicians whom he had separate musical collaborations with over the previous eight years. The chemistry was strong right from the get-go and the band continues to evolve and grow with each performance.
The word “eclectic” is probably the single-most over-used adjective when describing bands today. In the case of Shady GroOove, the band truly does not fit the mold of any one particular genre. Rather, they select the best musical elements from a diverse blend of artists such as Grateful Dead, Medeski/Martin & Wood, Ryan Adams, Michael Jackson, String Cheese Incident, The Band, Phish, Weather Report, as well as their own contribution of original music. The result is a bold, adventurous style of music that strives to push the envelope while keeping the listener engaged, entertained and wanting to hear more. Violin and keys carry the melodic passages and serve as the “vocals” for the band, while bass and drums hold a solid foundation of rhythm and grooove. But things really start happening when the band slides into full-on jam mode— soaring solos and a call and response interplay within the entire band result in a infectious and unique sound that lures the listener in and is hard to resist.
There’s something for everyone from this unique musical offering. Sit back, chill, and enjoy the sweet melodic passages and improvisational explorations or feel the groove and get up to dance the night away. Either way, Shady GroOove is a musical vehicle that helps one to live in the moment and forget about the time.
